Craig Steltz had three of LSU's six interceptions and the second-ranked Tigers manhandled Mississippi State 45-0. LSU has beaten the Bulldogs eight straight times by a combined 340-81 margin.
Bulldogs quarterback Michael Henig set a dubious school record by throwing six picks. Henig also fumbled the snap on a fourth-and-1 attempt on one of two Mississippi State forays into LSU territory.
Mississippi State has lost 12 straight games to Top 10 opponents.
In the rest of the first night of Top-25 college football:
Tenth-ranked Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns and the 10th-ranked Cardinals sparkled in coach Steve Kragthorpe's debut by routing overmatched Murray State 73-10 in their season opener. Brohm led Louisville to touchdowns on each of the Cardinals' first eight drives. Louisville rolled up 655 yards of total offense.
No. 16 Rutgers is out to prove last year's 11-2 season was no fluke and the Scarlet Knights are off to a good start. Ray Rice rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns, Tiquan Underwood had 10 catches for a school-record 248 receiving yards and two TDs and the Scarlet Knights pummeled Buffalo 38-3.
Ian Johnson ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns and 24th-ranked Boise State walloped Weber State 56-7 in the season opener for both teams. The Broncos ran their winning streak to 14 games, longest in major college football.
